Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share a virtual kitchen table with other readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by to talk about music, your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper…. Newcomers may notice that many who post in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table and hope to make some new friends as well.
What a day it has been. What. A. Day. Once again, Donald Trump is the center of attention (which he lives) but this time is different.
The news of Trump’s illness has me thinking of what my late dad (who was a career combat pilot) said about another pilot who died in Korea doing something risky no reasonable pilot would ever do upon landing. But this guy did — and he had a fatal crash. Dad said, “Guys like that think nothing will ever happen to them because up until now, nothing ever has.”
Do we know of any consequences Donald Trump has ever faced for anything he has ever done? Until today. Until today.
What has most people angry and indulging in schadenfreude is the fact that Trump has been reckless, not only for himself and for his immediate circle, but with the health and safety of all Americans. So many people have died. So many are ill. And the Covid situation is not likely to get better until he is out of office.
Vote like your life depends upon it. It does.
And while we are talking about reprehensible behavior, there is another guy who is very much responsible for the world of hurt Americans find themselves in. I’m talking about Mitch McConnell who has slow walked coronavirus relief while trying to ram through the confirmation of an ultra-conservative judge to the Supreme Court. The man has no conscience. If life were fair, he would lose his seat. Here is a modest effort to help that process along:
Help Amy McGrath AND win yourself a unique Ditch Mitch Quilt!
HOW TO ENTER TO WIN THE DITCH MITCH QUILT
We are going to have a drawing on Monday, October 19, from all the entries we have received up through midnight of October 18 (Eastern time). There are two ways you can enter:
You can only enter once a day, but you can enter on as many days as you want.
Do it now while you are looking at that beautiful quilt! And let’s do all we can to help Amy McGrath defeat Mitch McConnell!
Please help us gather some money for Amy McGrath’s campaign. You’ll feel good doing it — and you might just get a prize.
Oh! BTW, my Congressperson, Earl Blumenauer, has compiled a useful list of GOTV activities anyone can do. Being a shy person, I am writing Vote Forward letters. But there are lots of other things going on. Election Action. Connect. Vote. Win.
I’ll close with a word from Trevor Noah about Trump’s positive Covid test — because he’s right.
Maybe, just maybe Trump’s base will begin to wear masks after learning of his illness. We can hope. Lives will be saved if they do. Joe Biden speaks plainly on the importance of masks for all of us:
Now that is the person I want in the White House.
The weekend begins now. Come in, be comfortable, and share your day, your weekend plans, your menus! This is an open thread.
