President-Elect Joseph Robinette Biden! Vice President-Elect Kamala Devi Harris! Savor it. It has been a hard fight. Now it’s over, except for the final tallies, certification, and whiny loser challenges.
We beat Republicans. They gave it their best shot. Turn out was huge. Their candidate will end up with about 10 million more votes this year than in 2016. They knew it was the fight of their lives, and we still beat them. We beat them by over 4 million votes.
They turned out in even larger numbers to fight for the House and Senate. We mourn and regret our losses, and will work to reverse them. Still, we beat them in the Republican gerrymandered house, and we are so close to matching them in the rural state favoring Senate.
We got hit. We got knocked down. We lost dearly loved friends. Still we fought through and won the day.
Enjoy the day. Relax if you are able. Spend time with loved ones.
Then, prepare to work. There are still two Senate seats to fight for in this election.
Give $3 right now to rip the Senate majority from Mitch McConnell’s cold dead hands.
Beyond that, from local districts through Congress and the courts, the upcoming fights will be hard, challenging, and sometimes dirty.
I, for one, believe that Democrats need to address the rural urban divide. We can build dialogues through bus tours, billboards, bumper stickers, and booths at county fairs. Be a proud progressive in those conversations. Don’t try to convert the Trumpasses, but sway some of the 70% Republican rural voters by exposing them to progressives instead of the monsters conservative media lie about.
Yes, much work remains. The rural-urban divide is just one example. Our victory today will fuel us in the fights of tomorrow.
We won.
President-Elect Joseph Robinette Biden! Vice President-Elect Kamala Devi Harris!
Celebrate the victory. Enjoy the day.
