I know it’s an intense time in politics right now and we’re giving money to the candidates of our choice, but I am writing to ask for help of another kind, for a very deserving person. He’s a good friend of mine and a U.S. Marine Corp veteran. He’s been diagnosed with lung cancer. He’s a machinist and a machine shop foreman. He’d been coughing a lot a work in the often fume laden air of his work environment and then started coughing up blood.
He had insurance through his job and so he went to the doctor and got the diagnosis no one wants to hear, and surgery was scheduled. He took a note from the doctor to the shop saying he could not work in that environment till his cancer was resolved and a few days later he was fired and his health coverage ended. He’s turned to the VA for help with his cancer, but he’s not had income since May and is really suffering financially. He’s lost his home and is staying with others. His car then decided this was the time to have mechanical problems, so it’s just been really piling up.
This is one of those guys who would go out of his way to help others, yet reluctant to ever ask for help for himself. A stand on your own two feet type who even hated to ask the VA for health care, and never had until now. So I’m trying to help him and one of the things I’ve done is start a GoFundMe page for him. The link is below and even if you can’t afford to give any money, just posting this link in other places is another way you can help.
I don’t have a very large internet presence, but I posted it on my Facebook page and this is one of the other places where I thought I would post an appeal for help. I put the link in a response to a post about Rush Limbaugh having lung cancer and people responded so positively that I decided to write this in an attempt to reach a wider audience. I know there are a lot of good people on this site, so if you can help, it is for a former Marine who I know will be very touched and very thankful. The pic above is not a good one but it’s recent. He was attending a Purple Heart Ceremony for another vet at the Dale K. Graham Veterans Organization in Norman, Oklahoma.
Thank for reading and thanks to those who can help.
