First I would very much like to thank everyone who offered kind words, hugs and support for myself, my son and my grandson last week. We are moving forward, albeit we know times will still be difficult as my grandson deals with this new reality. The whole of DK can be an amazing place to lean on and receive love in return. I also am sorry for the semi lame post. I really am so tired right now.
Good morning God Newsies, Gnusies, regulars, readers and newbies. Happy Wednesday.
So to my opening title, seems times like this can bring out the best and the worst of people so it seemed appropriate to mention how crisis can reveal people. I will start with the worst, hoarding needed supplies to make a profit off them...come on. Yet, I have seem mostly the best. People checking on each other, caring words and kind acts, understanding personal space without being insulted, and most of all my Republican boss finally understood the importance of us older adults to socially isolate as much as possible.
It is a scary time and nothing is guaranteed, plenty of life normalcy is being disrupted, but we are here for each other. Right at this site I see a lot of sound scientific news and advice, ideas for preparing, not being bored and going out of your mind if you are staying home for long periods of time. Music, food, and laughs abound, Stay away from the news that upsets you, there is always plenty of that too. Listen to your local officials, stay safe. I really love you all.
Onward!

If coronavirus scares you, read this to take control over your health anxiety
When news of the coronavirus broke at the end of last year, and as the stories from the outbreak became more alarming over time, I found myself wondering how health anxiety sufferers were coping.
You see, I used to be one. In late 2015, I suffered a post-traumatic stress disorder relapse which led to debilitating anxiety, much of which was health-related. During that period, I was paralyzed by the thought of becoming ill and dying. I was constantly checking for symptoms and signs of disease online and I was fixated on the health of my loved ones.
Here is some advice that may give some comfort to those of you who are struggling.
Read the whole thing, really.
I also love John Oliver. He gets us facts while nailing politicians and liars with the bonus of cracking me up.
A required animal break.
Too cute right?
Chef José Andrés Is Turning Some Closed Restaurants Into Community Kitchens to Help Feed People During the Pandemic
Chef José Andrés is at it again.
Time and time again, following one disaster after another, Andrés has been there to calm frayed nerves and offer both answers and food for hungry people. In 2010, following the massive earthquakes in Haiti, Andrés founded World Food Day and the World Central Kitchen, a coalition of chefs to assist in relief efforts to places in need.
So many amazing people stepping up!
Could. Not. Happen. To. A. Better. Person. Although he deserved more.
Former Rep. Duncan Hunter was sentenced to 11 months in prison for violating campaign laws
Former California Rep. Duncan Hunter was sentenced to 11 months in prison for violating campaign finance law.
The sentence was handed down by Judge Thomas Whelan in San Diego Tuesday morning. Hunter, a Republican, pled guilty in December to charges that he used campaign funds for a wide array of personal expenses. He resigned his seat in early January.
Hunter’s indictment accused him of using over $250,000 in campaign contributions for personal matters, including a vacation to Italy, private school tuition, and dental work, as Vox’s Tara Golshan explained at the time
Another animal break because this is a tough news time folks.
