A new Public Policy Polling survey finds that races for U.S. Senate and House in Montana are both neck and neck. In the Senate race, Governor Steve Bullock and Senator SteveDaines are tied 47-47, with just 6% of voters undecided. In the House race, Kathleen Williams and Matt Rosendale are tied 45-45, with 9% still undecided. Bullock and Williams both lead among independent voters, with an 8 point lead for Bullock (50-42)and a 12 point lead for Williams (51-39).
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is unpopular in Montana, with 47% holding an unfavorable opinion of him and just 31% viewing him favorably. The margin is even wider among key independent voters, where McConnell is underwater in favorability by 26points (53-27).
Voters are more closely divided in opinion on Senator Daines, with 45% holding a favorable opinion and 42% holding an unfavorable opinion. Governor Bullock’s margin of favorability is larger, with 49% viewing him favorably and 40% viewing him unfavorably.
The survey also finds that a majority of Montana voters (54%) think politicians in Washington support policies because they help corporate or special interest groups who support or donate to their campaigns most of the time. A further 36% think politicians in Washington support policies due to donations from special interest groups sometimes, while just 6% think it happens rarely and only 1% think politicians never support policies due to special interest donations.
PPP surveyed 903 Montana voters from March 12-13, 2020. The margin of error is +/-3.3%. The survey was conducted by telephone.
