I voted on Saturday. Yes, in THAT election.
The process of casting my vote for a candidate I love is always an emotional experience. I remember the votes for Obama with great joy. I know he wasn’t perfect, he was never going to be. But he was a good man, dedicated to serving the people of our country, which we needed very much after the Bush years.
And after, I voted for Hillary Clinton with similar passion. Again, there was no question of a perfect candidate, but I have never voted with greater clarity and appreciation of the superiority of our candidate.
Saturday, in the most important primary I have ever voted in, I cast my vote with tears of passion and intention.

It was fairly clear going in that it was going to be a Biden day, perhaps not quite to that degree. I was astonished at the ramifications of the day. I really like the idea of Saturday voting. Putting the general elections on Tuesdays is quite ridiculous, and disrespectful of the purpose of elections.
Though I am fine with the withdrawal of the candidates who withdrew, I am not wild about or invested in the impact of my state’s primary. I think it is absurd that a state that isn’t going to allocate its electoral college votes for our nominee should have such outsized influence.
Still, though my candidate didn’t win, I am still thrilled with the power of the experience of casting that vote. It was the payoff for many months of emotional investment in the success we all need so desperately.
It isn’t all there is to the fight, by any means. And my commitment to it goes beyond even tomorrow’s elections. And will continue in its way through November, when I will cast my vote for our nominee with great passion, even if it isn’t the same person I voted for Saturday. Though I hope it will be.
What is your voting experience like?
