Picard the Sci Fi We Need
On the Eve of the End – Star Trek: Picard
I thought I should write a follow up on last week’s review before it is all sadly over. Yes, as I stated I am a fan. I would watch if the previous episodes had been terrible. The Picard spin off has been entertaining. The series told us a new tale with some moments and lines destined to be quoted and gif-ed. There can be no higher honor, watching a scene spasmodically displayed on an infinite loop. I have not seen this year’s (26th at 12 AM PDT) final episode which is Part II of last week’s “Et in Arcadia Ego.”
Our intrepid, possibly eclectic, crew has made it to Coppelius or Synthville.
What questions did last week answer: – WTF, seatbelts finally after years of actors flinging their bodies hither and yon, seatbelts.
Maddox was not on Coppelius when Soji and Dahj were sent on a mission with secrets they didn’t know they had. Not answered why did Maddox leave and what was he up to before the Romulans destroyed his lab?
The community of perhaps a 100 or so androids all creations of Maddox and Soong (Data’s never before known human brother) live a harmonious life on an arid class M planet with colorful if somewhat sparse flora. Many have commented it is a very TOS type world.
How many Romulan warbirds are coming, 218. When planning a defense against a coming invasion precise numbers are a great advantage unless your defense is, now up to twenty flower things.
Some critics didn’t like that the android, sibling of Soji, Sutra did a Vulcan mind meld. They could have produced some mind transference device but chose to go with an old Vulcan plot gimmick. Soong is working on transference still moving along, we did see the Admonition slowed down. Clearly Data face and Starfleet Logo (now adapted to Trump’s Space Force) appear in the montage. Also, our organic translation did not give us the specs to build a beacon to summon a machine universe of AI only life forms, but it was there. They will eliminate the organics (carbon-based units) meaning us, if they are summoned. Therefore, Soji is indeed the Destroyer, summoner of all demons or may be.
Brent Spiner as Soong is doing a repeat of a family of characters. Now we meet a new generation, this one the great grandson of the Soong in Star Trek: Enterprise. If you remember the Enterprise Soong, and this mad scientist offspring seems similar, you will not trust him.
Yes, Seven of Nine does fly an impressive Borg cube, but it is susceptible to flower power as well. One of the true science-based reviewers knew the mass of a Borg cube (I don’t know why) and felt it would hit like an asteroid wiping out Synthville. OK, quoting myself because who else will “We accept as fact fantastic nonsense…” Maybe these flowers are like hippie-era girlfriends who will make you non-functional for a while but are letting you down easy. It is rather a throwback to a TOS series in style. Now Raffi has been given a pot pipe and told to just imagine; it will fix the La Sirena. Maybe the magic pot pipe can fix the Borg Cube as well.
Sutra and organic ally Soong are building a beacon seen in previews to call the synthetic being universe. Picard is locked in his room.
Yes, Narek showed up also crashed by a flower. Soji does not forgive him, but some twisted strategy is going on between Sutra and Soong. He is allowed to escape, and an innocent sister android is killed as a cover. Coppelius is not a colony of Dahjs and Sojis who seemed like very ethical androids, true daughters of Data. Someone must have used a copy of Lore.
Our last and final questions then before the last episode. No doubt some questions will always linger. Why did the Romulans not find Coppelius with information from the Ibn Majid incident?
Soji and Dr. Jurati are the puzzle boxes in this episode, when they open up what will they reveal?
Picard gave a good speech but apparently America’s, sorry the Federation’s credibility has worn thin in the current politics of the Beta Quadrant.
Narek is certainly up to no good, but is he trying a redemption story?
Will magic pot pipe work?
Is Star Fleet coming and what good is a Federation squadron against an eon old civilization of cold silicone based beings who hate imperfect organic life? Remember these guys moved and reorganized eight suns. Hey lassie, even Scotty had to be impressed by that feat.
Will Seven of Nine and Eldred get a series flying around in a Borg Cube? Last year everyone wanted more Captain Pike, Spock, and Number One and yes that is happening. Therefore yes, maybe, very likely.
Possibly our gang can manage to get the Romulans to listen to reason and call off their annihilation attack to avoid the summoning of another more total annihilation. Romulans are never shown as being overly reasonable usually just treacherous, therefore low odds on that. I do know odds and hope are poor bedfellows.
Someday Class M planets will not all look like Southern California. I will stop quibbling over production costs. Time to move to the question, do you want to see the mother of all space battles or not?
I am ready to sit back and let it roll. I do hope Elnor gets to meet Spot II. The quibblers have pointed out Spot was originally a male cat, but once found after having kittens. No wonder the synthetics hate us, keeping the cannon going is an arduous task for messy imperfect organics.
I think this quote from Picard will help carry us as the series ends. My self-isolation has no end in sight; I may need to find another diversion.
-- "The past is written, but the future is left for us to write, and we have powerful tools, Rios. Openness, optimism, and the spirit of curiosity."
If not, there is always Seven of Nine to save the day, Picard has passed the torch of saving the galaxy to her. Would the new synthetic overlords give the Borg a pass?
As this season ends, I am sure the galaxy will be in a little better place than when Picard first dreamed of Data and the Mars attacks.
Also I wrote a rather practical path to overthrowing our current synthetic lifeforms in the White House and Senate
— We could save our own galaxy Our Lives will Never Be the Same, Nor Should They
We cannot let power remain in the hands of those whose greed and corruption ruin all life. We might as well build the beacon and place a call for the Synthetic Universe. Please come save our planet from us organic human types. Would they kill the dogs too, I mean everyone loves puppies?
