Here’s the deal today out of Ohio:
President Donald Trump is doing OK among Ohioans for his handling of the coronavirus crisis, but Gov. Mike DeWine is hitting it out of the park, new statewide polling shows.
Ohio’s Republican governor got the timing right on when to impose restrictions, has support for his stay-at-home order and is viewed far more favorably than the president, according to the Baldwin Wallace University Ohio Poll released Monday.
Yet, despite lower ratings than the governor on handling coronavirus, the polling found Trump continues to have a solid opportunity to repeat his 2016 Ohio victory this fall – running near a dead heat with former Vice President Joe Biden in the state.
BW’s Community Research Institute, in partnership with Ohio Northern and Oakland (Michigan) universities, polled 797 registered Ohio voters last week from Monday through Saturday. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
The election
The presidential election preferences landed within the margin of error.
Trump leads Biden, 32.2% to 31.1% among those who said they “definitely” would vote for one candidate or the other. But among others who said they “probably” would, Biden led, 13.8% to 12%.
That gave Biden an overall lead of 44.9%. to 44.2% in the poll, well within the margin of error. The rest said they were unsure.
It’s still early but it’s very encouraging to see Ohio competitive again and we should make a serious effort to win the Buckeye State. Click here to donate and get involved with Biden’s campaign.
