Where can an Iowan look for leadership?
Looking to the statehouse and our junior Senator, I don’t see leadership. Governor Kim Reynolds refuses to issue the shutdown order that will give our rural areas time to prepare. Just yesterday, she even inexplicably relaxed social distancing orders with the state’s COVID peak just weeks away.
And what about Joni? She’d prefer to repeat Mitch McConnell’s talking points than to offer leadership.
Iowans deserve better.
I’ve been here before. I want to offer Iowans a showcase in leadership.
Thirty-seven years in the Navy comes with a lot of unique experience. I’ve been here before. I’ve been involved in disaster relief after Hurricanes Hugo and Katrina. I worked the response to the ebola pandemic in Africa twice.
There’s no alternative for leadership, experience, and vision. That’s why I’m launching my plan to fill a glaring vacuum that Iowa’s senior Republicans have left.
Beginning on Wednesday at 12 p.m. CT, I will host a daily Facebook Live briefing in response to Governor Reynolds’s briefing. I want to use these daily opportunities to set the record straight, to figure out what we need to do now and what it will take to recover.
Plainly, I want to do what I’ve been doing for forty years. I want to lead.
On June 2, we have a close race for the U.S. Senate. I am the only candidate with the experience to lead Iowans out of this crisis. I want to prove that to you. I hope you’ll join me every day at noon for a showcase in principled leadership.
I’m a retired three-star admiral running for Senate.
