The republicans are playing a game with the country — Republican Roulette. It’s different from Russian Roulette, although a Russian influence shines through. In the republican version they’ve traded in the revolver and replaced it with a semi-automatic pistol. To play they fill the clip with live rounds, load the gun, point it at America and fire away until the gun is empty. Whoever, they are pointing at when the ammo is used up wins.
So far they’ve taken potshots at: refugees, women, minorities, most religions, the LBGTQ community, family farms, the Military, workers, wages, unions, the steel industry, the auto industry, the aluminum industry, just plain industry, our international trade partners, immigration, voting rights, arms control, healthcare, the middle class, the elderly, the disabled, honesty, decency, unity, justice for all, equality, gold-star families, Mexicans, our national parks, education, the economy, our allies, the working poor, the environment, the deficit, the US Post Office, the poor, the tired, the huddled masses yearning to breath free and now the pandemic response. It’s clear they are cheating at this as well. They don’t stop, just reload and keep on shooting1.
There is one odd thing — for all their historical expertise and warmongering and gun hugging they aren’t very good shots. Most of the time when trying to do damage to national institutions and polices they also end up shooting themselves in the foot. If you combine that with their penchant for putting their feet in their mouths and their heads up their asses, they are doing themselves grievous injury while attempting to own the libs2. I guess building a national political party based on greed, hatred and decisiveness is not the best recipe for achieving competent governance.
Sometime during the last sixty years the republicans have managed to bollix up a lot of basic concepts of what makes a society strong. They’ve created their very own set of Republican Commandments.
Ten Commandments — Republican Style
- Progress is only achieved through regression.
- Sound is more important than substance.
- Selfishness is a virtue.
- Laws can be ignored as long as you are a republican and rich.
- Party supersedes country.
- Profit comes long before humanity.
- Individual rights are sacrosanct, except for women, minorities, liberals and anyone who isn’t a card carrying republican.
- Stupidity is to be encouraged.
- All those old Moses commandments are optional for republicans.
- tRump is our savior and we shall not balk.
I’m in search of a proverb to express just how much these people suck. None of the current candidates even scratches the surface. “People who betray their countrymen deserve to rot in the lowest circle of hell,” doesn’t even begin to express just how bad they are.
Onward to November. Up the Resistance!
1The length of this list is disgusting. I know it’s terribly incomplete, so please suggest additions.
2I’ve used this foot-in-mouth, head-in-ass, shoot-foot progression more than once in the past. Someday, I’ll manage to articulate it well enough to stop tweaking the text.
Disclaimer: The NNNE Institute™ does not advocate the use of guns for any social or political purpose and thinks the 2nd amendment is wildly misinterpreted by gun-huggers and arms manufacturers.
