Received this e-mail today from the Council for a Livable World:
In 2018, Texas flipped two congressional seats, two state senate seats and 12 state house seats from red to blue. Progressives have a chance to flip three more seats in November and maintain a seat that flipped in 2018.
It's time to announce the first of nine new endorsees we'll be introducing to you over the next few weeks.
Wendy Davis (D-TX-21) is challenging first-term Republican Rep. Chip Roy, who won by only a two-percent margin in 2018, leaving this central Texas district ripe for flipping. While Roy is a hawk who has voted incorrectly on almost every national security issue, Davis opposes the new nuclear weapons programs proposed by the Trump administration and supports extending the New START nuclear arms treaty.
Davis joins three other House candidates from Texas we've endorsed this cycle.
Sri Kulkarni (D-TX-22) is a national security expert and former Foreign Service Officer who barely lost a bid for Congress in 2018 to an incumbent Republican. This suburban Houston district is changing, leading the incumbent to retire, and is a top target for Democrats this cycle. Kulkarni says foreign policy should promote democracies, safeguard human rights, and work toward a world safe from the threat of nuclear annihilation.
Gina Ortiz Jones (D-TX-23) lost one of the closest races in the country in 2018 against an incumbent who is also retiring. Jones is an Iraq War veteran and intelligence analyst who later joined the Defense Intelligence Agency, and will be an advocate for progressive national security policy in this rural district along the Mexico border.
Colin Allred (D-TX-32) was endorsed by the Council in his first successful race in 2018 when he ousted a Republican incumbent. His district includes a suburban portion of northeastern Dallas County, where Democrats made significant gains in 2018. He serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and has been a strong supporter of nuclear arms control.
Please consider a generous contribution to each candidate as our work to turn Texas blue continues.
Thank you for your continued interest in and support for these critical issues and our endorsed 2020 candidates. I hope you and your loved ones are staying well.
Sincerely,
John Tierney
