This is just one verse from this remarkable song, but it resonates today:
Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don’t stand in the doorway
Don’t block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There’s a battle outside and it is ragin’
It’ll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’
—Bob Dylan, The Times They Are A Changin’, 1964
Dylan’s words are as true today as they were in 1964; I would hope even more so. The myopic Trump can’t or won’t see it. America has suddenly and drastically shifted. We must work to end racism; it will be a long, hard slog. It starts now, and we don’t stop.
