Among the shocking turnovers in the blue wave of 2018 was the unexpected victory of Kendra Horn over Republican incumbent Steve Russell in Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District, the first time a Democrat had taken the seat since the 1970s.
OK ‘Pubs likely see Rep. Horn’s victory as a fluke, and are lining up to run against her. This is one of them.
Meet the Candidate: Shelli Landon
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Shelli Landon is one of nine Republicans seeking the party's nomination for Oklahoma Congressional District 5.
Landon came to Oklahoma for college and never left. She graduated from Raymond Bible College, earned a PhD in education, and served as Master Artist at-Large.
Shelli is a national anthem singer, and started, gathered signatures, and eventually got a resolution passed in the Senate to preserve the Star-Spangled Banner in perpetuity.
Dr. Landon is indeed a national anthem singer, and the resolution she championed, enshrining all the verses of the Star-Spangled Banner as America’s anthem for ever and ever was agreed to by the Senate. I do not doubt these biographical claims.
However, one claim made in her Ballotpedia bio seems sketchy:
Shelli Landon was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University in 1979. She attended Oral Roberts University as a Master Artist at Large and student teacher, before transferring to Shalom Bible College Theological Seminary, where she earned a master's degree and Ph.D. Additionally, she studied for two years in a diploma program at Rhema Bible College, at Ulpan Akiva, in Israel, and Oxford. Landon's career experience includes working as a film animator, television producer, musician, author, and minister.[1][2] She is a member of the OKC Republican women’s club and a graduate of the Leadership Training Institute.[3
Studied at Oxford? Maybe. RISD? Who knows? She has produced some noted works, so maybe.
What I have to challenge in Landon’s submitted bio is her claim to be a “television producer.” Because I’ve just seen her work.
Giving Dr. Landon her due, she does indeed sing the national anthem.
