There has been much said about the alleged crimes of our ‘alleged president’. The argument that he should be forgiven is ridiculous under the burden of the many crimes we assert, little less those that he’s allegedly instructed others to commit. According to The Intercept:
18 U.S. Code § 872:“Extortion by officers or employees of the United States.”
shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both; but if the amount so extorted or demanded does not exceed $1,000, he shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
2 U.S. Code § 192,“Refusal of witness to testify or produce papers,”
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 nor less than $100 and imprisonment in a common jail for not less than one month nor more than twelve months.
18 U.S. Code § 610,“Coercion of political activity.”
shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
18 U.S. Code § 595,“ Interference by administrative employees of Federal, State, or Territorial Governments”
shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year,or both.
18 U.S. Code § 607, “Place of solicitation”
shall be fined not more than $5,000, imprisoned not more than 3 years, or both.
52 U.S. Code § 30121, “Contributions and donations by foreign nationals.”
shall be fined not more than $5,000.
This list doesn’t include his Impeachable Offenses:
Violation of Constitution on Foreign Emoluments
Violation of Constitution on Domestic Emoluments
Incitement of Violence
Interference With Voting Rights
Illegal War
Illegal Threat of Nuclear War
Abuse of Pardon Power
Obstruction of Justice
Politicizing Prosecutions
If we add up all of Trump’s alleged crimes, he stands to serve about ten years. If Congress had added up all of his impeachable offenses, maybe it would have overwhelmed the republican’s ability to ignore it. On that point, I guess that we’ll never know, but on the criminal side it’s important for the future of our country that he be indicted and tried, just like any other citizen of the United States under our Rule of Law!
Should we make the big mistake of not prosecuting Trump, he will find a way to continue his con. Maybe Don Jr. will run. Maybe Ivanka will. Any one of the criminal cronies in his syndicate administration might also run.
Both Biden and Pelosi worry me because they often speak of forgiveness. If we remind them that Trump and his cronies will do all that they can (in conjunction with Russia) to destroy us, will we be able to save the soul of our democracy? Remember Ben Franklin said “It’s a republic, if you can keep it.” I hear that to mean that it isn’t easy!
I can’t help but think of how Obama didn’t get the bankers prosecuted and are our banks any safer today? No! With all of the questions we have only time will tell, but if a reality show actor ever wants to lead our country again, I say turn the damned channel!
