Hello, everybody. A little over a month ago, I wrote this diary detailing a family emergency involving my 20 year old daughter, whose live-in boyfriend was being physically and emotionally abusive towards her.
Since the diary was written, she was able to get the judge to issue a protective order against him and force him to move out of her apartment. Since he was ordered to vacate the dwelling he is now off the lease. Using some of the money donated by several Kossacks, we got her car repaired. We have also been able to replace some of the smaller household items, such as some of dishes and kitchen items he destroyed in one of his fits of rage.
I had the door repaired that he ripped off the hinges and also got the holes in the walls patched and sanded with drywall. The landlord said they had some paint I can use to cover over those areas. Hopefully the repairs will either eliminate, or at least reduce, the amount of money that will be taken out of her security deposit when she moves out. I was able to find a young man in her neighborhood who helped do the work at a reasonable cost.
She was also able to pay her bills on the 1st of the month using the money several people in the community donated on her behalf.
I want to thank the community once again for the outpouring of financial assistance, good advice and moral support provided to my daughter. Getting through that initial situation would have been much more difficult without the help she received from the people her at Daily Kos.
Sadly, over the last month my daughter’s cat Pudding suddenly got very sick and died. The vet said she had severe anemia, and we suspect some sort of poison may have been the cause since it came on very quickly—just a few days before she had been running around playing and being her normal self. We have yet, however, to figure out where the poison may have come from. I kind of wonder if there was mouse poison used somewhere in the area—I can remember seeing some dead mice laying outside in the grass on a couple of occasions after she died. She had gotten outside a few days before she got sick—maybe she ingested one of those mice?
Oddly enough, her boyfriend took a job a couple of doors away from where I work. Last Monday morning when I went to leave work and head home, one of the back tires on my vehicle was flat as a pancake. It looked like it had been slashed with something, and was damaged far too badly to be repaired. Since nobody in the area had any decent used tires that would fit my van, I had to shell out the money for two new ones on the back. It sure seems like a….coincidence, doesn’t it? I filed a report with the Lexington Police, but they said there was not much they could do since there was no direct evidence linking him to the crime.
I had my daughter contact the lawyer who helped her with her protective order, but she does not think the judge would modify the order to keep him from coming near me since I do not live in the household with her. I have been keeping my pepper spray on my person at all times while at work at night, since I am mostly there by myself. Though my employer prefers that employees park in a specific area (which does not have cameras) today I talked to him and he said he would let me park my van in an area that is under video surveillance on the nights I work from now on. Hopefully my daughter’s ex is not stupid enough to try anything right on camera. This situation is very creepy and I am considering hunting for another job myself since apparently the courts won’t do anything.
On a far more positive note she finally got a job in a local restaurant, and was able to start working last week. She will get her first paycheck on the 29th, but it will only have a few days on it since she is in training till next week. This job doesn’t pay as much as her other job did, but at least she will be able to scrape by until she can either land a side job or get something that pays more. One of her neighbors also works at this restaurant, and on most days she will be working, she will be able to ride back and forth with her if she wants to so she does not have to be alone. Also, I like the fact that the managers make sure none of the employees have to walk to their cars alone after work at night.
So now, in order to help my daughter keep her apartment, I am going to have to ask if the community could possibly help her a little bit more. As I stated above, her first paycheck will be very small—nowhere near enough to cover the rent, which will be $830 next month (this includes her trash, water, and pest control bill) as well as her electric bill, which will run around $75. I am already covering her car insurance and renter’s insurance.
She also desperately needs a bed to sleep on, since her ex destroyed it. She had been using an air mattress of mine, but now it has a hole in it. I have an old bed frame in my shed she can use, but a mattress set will run around $250 if I buy them at American Freight in Lexington. I can borrow a pickup truck to haul them, so I will at least be able to avoid a delivery charge. Maybe at some point in the future I can find her a pretty headboard at the Restore.
There are other things he destroyed, such as her TV, but that is non-essential and can wait until I have more money. I am stretched pretty thin right now, or I would help her with the things she needs myself. I had to take out some credit to cover about $300 for a security system for her apartment, about $340 for Pudding’s vet bill and cremation, and then about $250 for fixing my back tires. I normally make enough money to get by okay, but paying this stuff off will wipe me out for a little while. Last month I asked that people stop donating to her after we reached about $2100 because I hoped to be able to come up with the rest myself, and I had kind of hoped she would get started working and get a full paycheck sooner. But with all of these added expenses (that I had to take out some very high interest loans for) I am just not going to be able to afford to help her with too much more money for the time being.
So I am hoping the community can help her with about $1200 to help her pay her rent, electric bill, and get a set of mattresses. Her little paycheck should be enough to cover gas and groceries till she gets paid again two weeks afterward. By the time she gets her next paycheck she should be able to cover her living expenses herself. Once I pay off the debts described above, I should be able to help her with the rest of what she needs.
My oldest child is allowing us to use her paypal account once more at hotaruhana2@gmail.com for donations. She has one of those accounts that allow her to immediately access the funds she receives. I want to thank the community once more for all the help you have given my youngest daughter, and for all the moral support as well.

A few more generous Kossacks sent my daughter a bit more money overnight—now the total needed is down to $855.
A few people have suggested that I raise the amount needed in order to cover the loans I had to take out in order to cover the cost of the security system I bought my daughter ($300), the repair to my van’s tires ($250) and the cost of Pudding’s vet and cremation bill ($340). If people want to send a bit my way to cover some of those costs (in total about $890) it would be appreciated, but my daughter’s needs have to come first.
