I like having friends with unusual names and the potters I know have the best variety. Obie Clark is a local man that I have known for thirty years and has been making his living throwing clay for over fifty Sun rotations. His name is as unique as his work and I am proud to own some of his craftmanship. The wife and I visited Obie (the weekend of my wife’s birthday). Of course we got her a few things.

First, I’d like to share a bit of history with you. The first piece I collected of Obie’s work is a wall hanging. I like the design and texture.
I call this, “Winged Heart” circa 1994 (approx. 8 inches diameter)
The next item I collected was a vase and lid. Odie had decided to play with different colored glazes. This was one of his early attempts at yellow.
6 inch at widest point and 11 inches tall (circa 1990)
When my wife’s mother passed away, there was a bowl (with lid) that my wife received. We are proud to have it in our collection. It is kitchen functional, but we have not used it for serving.
Bowl is 12 inches diameter (and with lid) 8 inches tall (dated 1989)
The wife browsed while I talked with Obie. She came back with this bowl. She has good taste.
Birthday gift for 2021. 12 inch diameter and 8 inches tall.
I complimented her choice and made one mistake by asking if that is all she wanted. Here is the response I got.
I now have a variety of Obie’s glaze colors and a new montage of wall hangings on his Heart theme. I am so happy for my wife and glad birthdays only last a week. Hope you have meaningful gifts today.
The final hanging/arrangement on Christmas Eve.
