”DARVO is an acronym for "deny, attack, and reverse victim and offender". It is a common manipulation strategy of psychological abusers.[1][2][3] The abuser denies the abuse ever took place, attacks the victim for attempting to hold the abuser accountable, and claims that they, the abuser, are actually the victim in the situation, thus reversing the reality of the victim and offender.[1][3] This usually involves not just "playing the victim" but also victim blaming.[2]”
It’s basically the only remaining tactic of the Republican party now.
Attacking — the blaming everyone they damage for attacking them, and supporting other republicans in those terms.
Attacking children for being ‘actors’ and threatening the second amendment by … being shot at in school. DARVO.
Blaming liberals for attacking the capitol — because all those people saying they are Trump supporters, and having a long history of being the most fervent Trump supporters must REALLY be antifa… and nevermind what antifa actually means. DARVO.
Choosing to keep children in cages for months— to not even track where their parents are, so that they are lost forever from eachother — then blaming them for not having family values after they escaped deadly scenarios to save their children. DARVO.
Allowing a major territory of the United States, Puerto Rico, to be devastated by hurricanes — then left without any aid for weeks — only to have the President only show up for a photo op, deny there is a problem, lob paper towels at people, then refuse to fund their recovery. Then insisting that they were severely disloyal for not appreciating that sufficiently. DARVO.
The entire news cycle, Late 2016 into 2020 — the treatment of the press by Republicans was pure DARVO. And a huge chunk of the press ate it up. The press was still the victim though — and Republicans the offender, they just accepted the role of willingly working with sociopaths.
And now everything. It’s all-DARVO all the time.
Because there is no valid defense — only doubling down on causing more harm, in place of defense.
Denying the harm.
Attacking the accusers.
Reversing
Victim and
Offender.
