Founded in 1975 and accredited by the American Association of Museums since 1987, the Missoula (Montana) Art Museum (MAM) is emerging as the leading contemporary art museum in the Intermountain West. MAM is a spectacular attraction in the heart of Missoula's historic downtown: a fully accessible, free, public museum that boasts eight exhibition spaces, a library, education center, and an inviting information lounge. One of MAM’s galleries recently featured the work of Doug Turman. According to the display:
“A master of the small, almost incidental, work on paper, Helena-based artist Doug Turman re-contextualizes his source material, juxtaposes text and images, appropriates at random, dabbles in tromp l’oeil and oblique gestures, and throws in a variety of painterly and cultural references to make satisfying works that are firmly rooted in play, irony, satire, and fun.”
