There are a few things I love every day. I admit, in the morning before I check my news and Daily Kos, I have a tendency to check out Good Mythical Morning, Legal Eagle, Dr. Mike, Linus, and a few others to crash my morning with a 60-minute rundown while I eat. They’re funny, informative, and a good way to get my day started. Devin Stone, the host behind Legal Eagle, has offered some pretty fantastic analysis over the years, but this morning, he came out with a doozy of a smackdown regarding Tucker Carlson, and whether or not his program was actively encouraging people to break the law.
As Stone says: “There was a decent chance Tucker Carlson was asking people to commit an actual crime in the name of this stupid mask related culture war.”
“Ah yes, the libertarian wants people to stop doing something that doesn’t impact other people in any way whatsoever,” is a good way for Stone to begin is program. Stone isn’t alone in tackling Tucker Carlson, who has faced calls from everyone from the ADL to John Oliver.
What Devin Stone questions is something very different. While Tucker Carlson points out that forcing a child to wear a mask is child abuse, Stone goes back and notes that parents have broad rights: “If a child doesn’t want to go trick or treating and, gasp, that isn’t child abuse.”
What is a key piece here is that encouraging people to make false claims of abuse can invite an overwhelmed police force into situations which can lead to bad outcomes for those involved. Our healthcare system is also burdened. Fake claims not only impacts healthcare for everyone, it is illegal in several states.
Oh well, Tucker. You might want to talk to an attorney or two, and maybe find out what you are saying before you start encouraging people to commit crimes.
Just my advice.
