Happy Labor Day! Received three e-mail today from three of the Democrats running in the Democratic primary for the open U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania. The first one is from Lt. Governor John Fetterman’s (D. PA) campaign:
Before we get too far into today's day off, I am asking you to please sign my petition to honor the labor unions and workers who build this country by urgently passing the PRO Act.
Because on Labor Day and every day, protecting the Union Way of Life is the right call.
And just think about it. Weekends, the eight hour workday, benefits: All thanks to unions and the centuries-long labor movement that built this nation.
Now, in the face of unprecedented attacks on workers and the right to form a union, we must pass the PRO Act — a crucial piece of legislation to put power back into the hands of workers, fight for our union brothers and sisters, and expand the union way of life for all workers across America. The House passed this bill a whopping 181 days ago — but the Senate STILL has yet to follow suit and send the PRO Act to President Biden's desk.
I can't think of a better way to celebrate Labor Day today than to actually pass crucial protections for millions of American workers and their families. Will you add your name to my petition to tell the Senate to pass the PRO Act immediately?

My commitment to the union way of life is absolute — even if it puts me at odds with my own party, and no matter how it polls. I am proud to stand with the Steelworkers, the United Food and Commercial Workers, the Building Trades, and all of the union workers in Pennsylvania, even when others turn their backs on them. I always have and I always will.
If I were in the Senate representing Pennsylvania right now, you can bet that I'd be a strong YES vote for the PRO Act. But working families can't afford to wait any longer. So I'm asking you to join me this Labor Day: Tell the Senate to pass the PRO Act. It's time to put power into the hands of workers and expand the union way of life.

Thank you for signing on — and enjoy your Labor Day.

P.S. Check out this AMAZING sign we saw displayed outside the Steelworkers local in Bethlehem, PA. Pretty incredible stuff. Be sure to thank a worker today, and then add your name next to mine to tell the Senate to pass the PRO Act.

The next one is from U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb’s (D. PA-17) campaign:
Rep. Conor Lamb (D. PA-17)
On this Labor Day, and every day, we honor the achievements of those in the workforce who have helped us secure fair wages, hours, working conditions, and treatment by employers.
All workers deserve a living wage for doing a day's work. But for nearly half of our labor force, that just isn't the case. I'm working to show our allies in organized labor that they can count on me to fight for their rights, keep my word, and always put working people first.
Earlier this year the PRO Act passed in the house, a true game changer. This bill represents an opportunity for us to rally together and finally begin to correct the wage and health inequalities that hard working families have to deal with every day. But with Democrats holding on by just the slightest margin, we cannot represent our workforce and repair our country's crumbling infrastructure without more support in the Senate.
This Labor Day, we must do more than offer platitudes about the dignity of work.
We must send a message: We're in the fight for fair and livable wages. We are in the fight for safe workplaces. We are in the fight for a secure retirement. And until that is a reality, the fight does not end. Sign your name to help move this bill forward.
I will always stand in solidarity with our workers as they organize, bargain, and demand better.
I'm truly thankful for the continued support from labor that our campaign has received. We need to stand with labor now more than ever as we look to get our economy back on track and continue to recover from COVID-19.
So what do you say? Sign the pledge: On Labor Day and every day, we stand in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters in labor who demand better.
Thank you,
Conor

The next one is from State Rep. Malcom Kenyatta’s (D. PA) campaign:
State Rep. Malcom Kenyatta (D. PA)
Today we honor the power of working people — the power of what we can accomplish when we unite to fight for an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few.
Unions built the middle-class by giving workers the power of banding together and advocating for fair wages, better benefits, and safe working conditions.
But that's all under attack. Greedy corporate giants like Amazon are making out like bandits while hardworking families suffer.
So it's time for Congress to step up. We cannot continue to let working families get left behind.
Will you join me in urging the U.S. Senate to pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act? We need to show this bill has overwhelming support, especially from folks in Pennsylvania, so I hope you'll sign my petition >>
Thanks to the power of collective bargaining, working people in this country have had a pathway to financial stability for over a century.
But with employers' (and state governments') increasing hostility toward them, the number of unionized workers is declining.
In 1980, nearly a third of all workers in Pennsylvania were members of a union. But today, union membership has fallen to less than 15%. Congress must act to reverse that trend and put us on a path to rebuilding a thriving middle class.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, working families have had to confront unprecedented challenges.
Ensuring workers' rights to advocate for better wages and safe working conditions is the only way for us to build a robust economic recovery in these uncertain times.
The PRO Act will help accomplish that by updating outdated national labor laws to strengthen collective bargaining efforts and expand protections for more workers.
It passed with bipartisan support in the House, and it's time for the Senate to send it to President Biden's desk.
We applauded the workers who built this country and got us through the pandemic. Now it’s time for us to do right by them.
If you agree, will you join me today in speaking up for working families and urge the Senate to pass the PRO Act?
In solidarity,
Malcolm
