I hope my fellow Kentuckians are enjoying the display of cruelty being shown by elected Kentucky Republican leaders. First, Senator Rand Paul votes “NO” on the PACT Act, and his reason for voting against the PACT Act is because it will be some kind of budget buster. Meanwhile, super ambitious Kentucky State Attorney General Daniel Cameron got an appeals court judge to reinstate the two trigger laws, which immediately shut down abortion clinics in Kentucky.
You got to love the timing of Cameron, especially after the vote in Kansas.
As for Rand Paul, you just have to read his BS for yourself:
"This bill puts our economy, though, at risk by creating presumptions of service connection for the most common ailments,” he said in a video of his remarks on the Senate floor.
Paul went on to explain that hypertension and asthma had the potential to be covered, and said this had the potential to cost "hundreds of millions of dollars in a time where the national debt is climbing over $30 trillion and inflation is at a 40-year high." Instead, he suggested an amendment to the bill, which would cut foreign aid in order to pay for these services.
His amendment ended up failing 90-7.
“We absolutely must take care of those who were harmed in service to our country, which is why I introduced an amendment yesterday to pay for hundreds of billions of dollars for veterans’ health care," Paul said. "Unfortunately my colleagues did not support my efforts."
Emphasis is mine. He is such a lying, selfish prick.
Here is the response from his opponent Charles Booker:
And another veteran had this to say:
Fuck flood victims, and fuck dying veterans. That’s a great motto for reelection. Does not matter how cruel Paul is. He will get reelected because the other fdecent human man running against Paul is black.
As for the issue of abortion:
Abortions again have abruptly halted in Kentucky and will remain banned at least through Friday after a flurry of new legal activity.
Monday, a judge with the state Court of Appeals granted an emergency request by Attorney General Daniel Cameron to reinstate two laws banning almost all abortions in the state.
The order by Judge Larry E. Thompson temporarily countermands an order from Jefferson Circuit Judge Mitch Perry to suspend enforcement of the laws while a legal challenge is pending.
On Tuesday, lawyers for Planned Parenthood and EMW Women's Surgical Center, the state's two abortion providers, asked the state Supreme Court to vacate Thompson's order and reinstate Perry's injunction against the abortion laws.
The court has given parties until 4:30 Friday to respond, which means no abortion will be allowed in Kentucky until a further ruling, expected after the Friday deadline, said Brigitte Amiri, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer who represents EMW.
If memory serves, this is the same judge who struck down COVID-19 mandates placed by Governor Andy Beshear. And Cameron is going to run for governor next year. So this is highly political.
