Michigan remains a politically contentious state—see the right-wing takeover of the Ottawa County Board Commissioners for this week’s prime example—but we also have reason to celebrate progress. Yesterday the brand-new Democratic majority in both houses of the Michigan legislature started the session off with a bang.
New here? Longtimer? Feel free to pull up a chair, settle in, hang out. As with an “open house” in real life, the pretext for the gathering matters less than providing the setting for a conversation.
Expectations are high for Democrats to deliver now that we have the trifecta. What else would you like to see enacted this year? The question applies to non-Michigan residents, too, since as usual so much important progressive action happens on the state level.
Welcome once again to Thursday Morning [ideally]Open House, a hangout we hope to post on a regular basis. The story itself may not be directly related to site features, but we aim to start a conversation with it. We want to offer a pressure-free platform for all users, newbies or longtimers, to chat about the story topic and also to discuss site features and site norms. Think of it as a cross between “Ask Me Anything” and a “How do I?” with the best part, as always, arising from the conversation we have in the comments. Polls will feature prominently and will always include some version of pie.
