An outboard motor is a portable motor designed to attached to the stern of a boat. While outboards were made in the late nineteenth century, the first succuss outboard motor was developed by Ole Evinrude in 1909. The Foss Waterway Seaport Maritime Museum in Tacoma, Washington includes a display of outboard motors.
