Hallo all. This will be a heavy night here in central Europe. In my country of residence, The Netherlands, there were national elections today. The results were totally inscrutable, because an entire generation of politicians who so far had dominated the scene, were en bloc retiring. Most big parties went in with new personnel, and two totally new parties were running with big poll support, the centrist-conservative party of Peter Omtzigt (NSC) — a whistleblower about a major government misrule scandal — and the anti-environmentalist, anti-transformational protest movement BBB. But neither of them won the elections — the exit polls are just out and the big winner is Geert Wilders (his party, the PVV got by far the most votes and the largest vote gain).
The grafics above gives the exit poll result. Red — today, grey — last run in 2021.
Geert Wilders is the big winner and is the likely first contender for the next premier ship of this country, I do not think I need to introduce him to the audience here?
There are 150 seats, 75 + 1 is majority. The VVD was the hitherto dominating party (of the now retiring premier Rutte, liberal-right). The VVD has said they might go with the PVV (but they didnt think as junior partner, I guess). Together they have 58, They need 18 [my bad] more seats.
It’ll be on the news soon enough.
Programmatically, Wilders ‘is for’ closing mosques, outlawing the Koran, basically suppressing Islam, refusing any immigration on basis of asylum; he has flirted with EU exit (but will hardly realize that as it would destroy this country). Many of the things he says are un-doable based on the constitution and the fundamental laws around here, but they attracted a vote.
