The Portland Art Museum (PAM) in Portland, Oregon recently exhibited Japanese Landscape Prints selected from PAM’s permanent collection. A selection of prints by American and Japanese artists working in the Pacific Northwest were also showcased in this exhibition, suggesting how the human affinity for nature transcends time and place and resonates with us here and now in Portland.
Shown above is Portland Airport, 1979, by Japanese artist Sekino Jun’ichirō (1914–1988). Color woodblock print on paper. Sekino Jun’ichirō was a visiting artist at Oregon State University.
According to PAM:
“The awesome scale of Mount Hood reflects the powerful impression made by the mountain, which surely provoked familiar feels of admiration and respect in an artist used to living in the shadow of Mount Fuji.”
