I know this bird is most likely a Grosbeak, either Evening or Black-headed, and I’m confident it’s very young, but other than that I can’t say. What do you think?
Here’s another frame, with color adjusted differently.
Truer to bird’s actual coloration. Larger than Sparrow, smaller than Robin.
The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.

I didn’t really go out in the morning, but I did get over to the barber shop at 10:00 a.m. and after the trim I headed over to Dellinger’s Pond, because you never know what you might see. Well, just this American Coot youngster.
So I did something completely different for myself today; I went out in the evening. Because you never know.
Besides a slew of mosquito bites (I plumb forgot to put on repellent) I came home with a nice walk and a few photos. Regular denizens, but hey, there was always the possibility for something out of the ordinary.
Canada Goose
Sandhill Crane
Yellow Warbler, male + female
American Robin
I did discover that for an evening stroll I need to be out by 7:00 p.m. or a tad earlier. By 8:00 p.m. the valley was completely in shadow. Like I say, though, it was a real nice walk.
Now it’s your turn.
What’s up in your world, nature and changes, that you have observed lately?
Let us know in the comments and as always please include your location, and photos if you got ‘em!
