I'm Nathan Kuipers, and I am here to share my journey as a candidate for Florida's State House District 65. Today, I want to highlight the invaluable experiences I've gained by working closely with voters one-on-one, and ask you to support one of the most critical races in the United States.
Campaigning with a Personal Touch
In the heart of Sulphur Springs, I had the honor of connecting with Black voters who once marched with Martin Luther King Jr. Their stories of resilience and activism have left a profound impact on me. Together, we've worked diligently to ensure that voter registrations are updated and accurate. I was honored by the importance of their historical contribution to the civil rights movement.
Embracing Diversity in County Strawberry Fields
As I canvassed the strawberry fields of Hillsborough county, I engaged in conversations using broken Spanish with the hardworking individuals who contribute to the agricultural backbone of our community. Understanding the unique challenges they face, I am committed to representing and advocating for the rights of our diverse population, regardless of language barriers.
Championing LGBTQIA+ Rights and Education
In the face of challenges posed by Governor Ron DeSantis, who has undermined LGBTQIA+ rights and public education, I am unwavering in my commitment to creating a more inclusive and equal Florida. Our community deserves a representative who will fight for the rights of all, irrespective of their background, identity, or beliefs. I will work to ensure we have a robust and flourishing LGBTQIA+ community in Tampa, and will not back down in the face of their attempts to make our gatherings illegal.
Pushing Back on the Republican Supermajority
As we look towards the future, it's crucial to acknowledge the impact of the Republican supermajority in Florida. Together, we must push back against policies that threaten the values we hold dear—equality, justice, and representation for all. My candidacy is not just about winning an election; it's about shifting the balance of power to ensure a government that truly represents the diverse voices within our community. This is one of the only competitive seats in the state where we can push back on terrible policies Republicans have empowered.
DailyKOS Member Since 2004
I've been a proud member of the DailyKOS community since 2004, and throughout the years, I've witnessed the power of bringing our values of reality and communication to the forefront of political discourse. As your representative, I will carry these principles into the heart of our state government, ensuring that the voices of everyday people are heard and respected. From the pie fights, to the Obama-Clinton wars, to changing how Americans viewed Iraq, DailyKOS was a formative connection to me understanding the Democratic Party.
Democrats have been losing the war on the internet for a while. I hope you will help me change that.
Our Pledge to Unity
This campaign is not just about policies; it's about people. It's about fostering understanding, embracing diversity, and creating a united front against injustice. Together, we can overcome the obstacles that divide us and build a brighter future for South Tampa and District 65.
I invite you to share your thoughts, concerns, and hopes with me. Let's continue this dialogue, one that brings us together for positive change. Connect with me here or on social media, and let's build a community where everyone's voice is heard and valued.
A Request for Support
Our campaign is in a pivotal moment in a pivotal district. We have been able to bring on staff who are used to being outspent and winning, but we need your support to continue this work. Whatever donation you are able to make ensures that we give voters in Florida a real choice.
Many Democrats in Florida run campaigns that are almost identical to Republicans. This is our chance to show them that a new approach will bring out voters and make this state blue again. But it will never happen without financial support. If you want to see a progressive movement succeed in Florida, we need to show the party that it’s possible by flipping this seat.
In solidarity,
Nathan Kuipers
