On her first show after the the revelation that former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel had been hired by NBC News, MSNBC's best-known host, Rachel Maddow, compared McDaniel with historical promoters of fascism in America, and addressed the hire.
She led the Rachel Maddow show with portraits of four historical U.S. fascists from the era of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She pointed out that none of them got more than a couple thousand votes, which she attributed to the fact that none had the support of a major political party.
That, she said, is what has given today's fascists an edge in the Trump era, attributing some of that success to McDaniel, who had left a position as head of the Republican National Committee just weeks earlier.
That brought Maddow to the NBC hiriing McDaniel as a commentator. She said MSNBC's top brass acquiesced to the hire by the parent network. The MSNBC brass announced there would be no requirement for McDaniel to appear on the cable channel, after a firestorm of criticism from MSNBC staff and hosts.
