Okay, I got this in my e-mail, and since I was doing other weird research, it drew my attention, as the numbers seemed really high (On immigration).
I’m pasting this all, then snipping it into bits.
Democrats Blocked Secretary Mayorkas' Impeachment Trial
The U.S. Senate is obligated to hold a trial when the U.S. House of Representatives sends impeachment articles over, yet Democrats actively refused to do their jobs and blocked the impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
The above did get my attention, especially the title after spending the day on DKOS (Day off, I was catching up). Anyway, he’s a Republican, so this was not to be unexpected; I didn’t fact-check this, but I’m sure I could; it’d be fun.
Next —
Detain and deport is the law, but since day one, the entire Biden administration—under the leadership of Secretary Mayorkas—refused to enforce this law. Instead, Mayorkas instituted catch and release, which resulted in more than 9.4 MILLION illegal immigrants entering the U.S. illegally. This deliberate violation of our law has also led to deadly amounts of fentanyl flowing into our communities; dangerous criminals freely roaming the U.S., including the individual who killed Laken Riley; and millions of migrants depending on your taxpayer dollars to live here illegally.
This is where I got hung up, so part one: “Detain and deport is the law.” Is it? I wondered. So I looked.
uscode.house.gov/…
Now maybe I missed something in that, and all it’s subsections, but it doesn’t read to mas it’s ‘detain and deport.’ but more the reasons you can detain, and what to do if you do. Moving on, not a lawyer, maybe you guys can find something I missed that supports that statement.
--Language, now i’m getting picky.
the entire Biden administration—under the leadership of Secretary Mayorkas—refused to enforce this law.
Okay uh, is it the Biden Administration and he’s at fault? or is it Secretary Mayorkas who is leading it? And are they refusing to enforce a law when there isn’t a law (As far as I could read) that says we have to detain and deport immigrants? Because if that’s the case no one gets in. We arrest you, and send you back, no exceptions. But the ‘reasoning’ offered is this —
Instead, Mayorkas instituted catch and release, which resulted in more than 9.4 MILLION illegal immigrants entering the U.S. illegally.
I’m going to have to parse this one a bit into two parts — so just the ‘catch and release.’ To me, Catch is the same as Detain, and Deport is a form of release, right? Like to release doesn’t define where you did it.
Now to the 9.4 million number. First? It doesn’t say between what time period (I found it) Fiscal years 2021-2023 and part of 2024. (Note: Fiscal years in this scenario are October to September of the following year. So these numbers would be Oct. 1 of 2020 to Sept. of 2023 and their additions of the ‘quarter’)
That seemed really high, even for the years, so I started digging. The only place I could find that number was on a RW website (My definition, with justification). This is what I found:
“According to U.S. Customs and Border protection data, 9.4 million foreign nationals illegally entered the U.S. in fiscal years 2021, 2022, 2023 and through the end of February 2024.” https://highlandcountypress.com/#gsc.tab=0
Note: reading a bunch of their articles, their only sorta noted source is The Center Square — So I looked, this is from Wikipedia.
The Center Square, formerly Watchdog.org, is an American news website that features reporting on state and local government. It is a project of the Franklin News Foundation, a conservative online news organization. The Center Square distributes its content through a newswire service.
In my opinion, it is not a reputable source. I looked at some other sites that regularly source their data from there, and it tends to be a singular source with no other data or is in that skewed ‘not the full details’ version. so I dug into the Customs and Border Protection Data, as well as the Pew Research Center information, and I came close to that number of 9.4 million with ENCOUNTERS! Not actually individual people, but encounters. Repeat visitors included (Which is the majority of those numbers). I also came close to that number when including immigrants who had been here since 2000, had kids who are also here, and some of them had kids. The number could come from either, but for RWNJ speak, let’s use C&BP data. Oh, there’s that darned catch, those numbers include ALL borders and ALL nationalities, and ALL immigrants. Sigh, big darn. Though I have to give them credit for cherry-picking the numbers and words. It did inflame — me to go fact check.
Continuing ‘cause it makes a leap in connectivity.
This deliberate violation of our law has also led to deadly amounts of fentanyl flowing into our communities; dangerous criminals freely roaming the U.S., including the individual who killed Laken Riley; and millions of migrants depending on your taxpayer dollars to live here illegally.
Parsing — Deliberate violation? Not that I can see, following the law according to the above link.
Leap number 2: Has allowed a deadly amount of fentanyl? Okay, what is a deadly amount? And don’t the majority of records (I looked to the DEA on fentanyl specifically) come in from China? How is it that this drug (And only this drug is mentioned) is related to illegal immigration? Especially if they’re being caught and released by the bad administration? Wouldn’t those drugs be confiscated? Wait, maybe they are, and that’s how they know the amounts—which they don’t mention— definitely things that make you put your finger to your chin and cause you to murmer ‘hum’.
Leap number 3: dangerous criminals freely roaming the U.S., including the individual who killed Laken Riley. <pause I have to go look this up> Seems to be a big thing that got a bill and everything:
The Laken Riley Act would require Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest illegal aliens who commit theft, burglary, larceny, or shoplifting offenses and would mandate that these aliens are detained until they are removed from the United States. The legislation also empowers states attorneys general to sue the Secretary of Homeland Security for taking actions on immigration that harm their states or their citizens. — www.budd.senate.gov
--check, needing to dig further. <Time done> Wow, this hasn’t even gone to trial yet; he’s still ‘alleged,’ wow, and Congress has a bill named after her already on the assumption of his guilt and being ‘undocumented?’ Wow, this is me shaking my head a lot. That’s not saying I disagree with that ICE to arrest illegal aliens who commit theft...etc, but don’t they do that already? Isn’t that their job description? Oh, but there’s the sneaky catch ‘the states attorneys general can sew the secretary of Homeland for stuff they don’t like. Check, very specific and targeted, hidden below the guise of something ‘innocent and redundant.’ Focusing back, I went on a not-so-little tangent there, like a little RW-Sheeple. My bad...or my good? shrugs shoulders.
after the semi-colon (digressing on its proper usage) “and millions of migrants depending on your taxpayer dollars to live here illegally.”
Ooh, this is careful wording that is inflammatory. Migrants? Yes, they do use our and THEIR tax dollars to live on, to do it illegally. No. There is a big difference in words there, dear Senator, and the staff writing this, and nice try on the wordage and order there; migrants are legal; they are eligible for those benefits and do pay into the tax system (FYI, so do many of the illegal ones). But let’s, for the case of parsing words, meaning, and intent, look into that.
I gotta do it definition time: “The word migrant refers to someone who moves to other places in search of work or better living conditions. The word immigrant refers to those who have moved to foreign countries permanently for work or for better living conditions. ”
So, by that definition, I’m a migrant (US-born and raised), but I have moved from one place to another in search of both work and better living conditions. And yes, I use government programs, ‘cause like I can. So there’s a shotgun to that argument veiled in truth but twisted all wrong. Yes, Migrants are using your tax dollars, but illegal ones? Trust me, it’s F****g hard to not only apply but receive and continue to do so. It’s not as easy as you think, ask anyone who has been through it recently.
Now for our last little bit of this e-mail — (Juicy in all its bits)
Why are Democrats afraid of holding an impeachment trial? Senate Democrats simply won’t accept the reality that Secretary Mayorkas has failed to do his job and refused to uphold the immigration laws. The lack of accountability is unacceptable and a clear and utter failure of their constitutional duties. America deserves better.
--Why are Democrats afraid of holding an impeachment trial? Uh, they aren’t, because the evidence doesn’t even meet preliminary needs of such.
--Senate dems won’t accept the reality the secretary has failed to do his job and failed to uphold immigration laws? Sure, whatever dude, I blew holes in that up there, and that’s just me and google having some fun. Oh, and the ability to read. He’s not refusing to uphold laws, that’s your unread/uneducated/’I can’t believe you're a senator representing me’ opinion.
--The lack of accountability is unacceptable and a clear and utter failure of their constitutional duties. — huh, I bet me and Google could have a lot of fun where you are the focal point. I have lived through your time as Governor in this state and Lieutenant governor. (Yeah that made me barf, just your biography, typical spin).
I am digressing as I need to go to bed, I have a really low-paying job (thanks to people like him) because even though I’m female, white, single and live in this state, with two bachelor's degrees and 30 years of experience, I’ve been demoted to secondary citizen — a diary for another time.
