All Are Welcome!
This is a weekly blog with a fun vibe that often veers off gardening, so stop on by and join the conversation. We are here every Saturday at 8 am Central with new content and chit chat continuing throughout the week. A core crew checks in each day. All comments are read, which makes us the best diary series on DK.
Morning Y’all, and welcome to another DownHeah edition of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging. Members and regular visitors here at SMGB know that I pretty much grow only tomatoes and peppers, and if it’s mid April, then this is my “planting out” diary. I grow most of my plants from seed, and I scheduled my seed starting with an eye towards planting out in mid April, and I did begin on 4/17, but...what I like to call “this, that & the other thing” have conspired to put me behind. No major calamity, but rather a series of aggravating, time consuming, shitty little things. Bed/container prep is behind; hardening-off is behind; obviously, weed control is behind. UGH!
Ok, my little rant is over. The remainder of this diary will consist of me just captioning a bunch of pictures...
Big Beef, my main producer. The best all around tomato I’ve ever grown...
Luci (short for Lucifer) enjoying some sunshine.
A variety called “Maria” (front center). Seeds from a super guy in Australia. And yes, I just got them planted out yesterday...
The Dwarf tomato section: “Alma’s Century Pink” and “Sully’s Dwarf Gina”, named in honor of our own GCNY...
Only about 7 more tomato varieties to get planted out. Let’s move over to the pepper side of things…
Looking pretty rough. The “feline protection devices” are not very attractive...
“Fatalii” peppers, overwintered from last year. It took them 2 weeks to wake up...
The same 2 Fatalii plants after I cut them back. January, ‘24...
Yes, this is also yesterday. Getting ready to plant out “Prairie Spice”.
Jalapeño, Hinkelhatz and Prairie Spice. 6 plants each...
“Rooster Spur” peppers in containers in the front yard.
Only 11 more pepper varieties to get planted out. Most of those are “superhots”; Ghost Pepper, Carolina Reaper, Habanero, etc…
Ok folks, that’s about it from DownHeah this fine Saturday Morning. I’ll update y’all on my progress in coming weeks.
I leave you with a pic of my hardy Amaryllis. She was stunning this year!
