Manjushri’s birthday is the 4th day of the 4th lunar month in various calendars. He is the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, and the former teacher of several Buddhas. Representations of Manjushri are quite varied, befitting one who represents Skill in Means in all of its variety.
Praise of Manjushri Bodhisattva
The immeasurable virtue of Manjushri Bodhisattva,
cultivating the dragon seed over a long period to become the Dharma King.
Take pity on the sentient beings who are lost in their nature,
Notably, I assisted Shakyamuni in upholding the profound teachings.
As the embodiment of the seven Buddhas, his nature is unfathomable,
Serving as the mother of all Bodhisattvas in myriad ways.
Residing in the tranquil light, he responds to the call of all beings,
Like the moon’s reflection in every stream, universally manifesting his presence.
And also a monk’s ruyi scepter, which we also see in the image below.
In the image at the top of this post, he holds a mani jewel. He is often seen sitting on a beast of some sort.
What would you like Manjushri’s help with?
Personal Note
My wife and I are out at a mother’s day brunch as this drops. See you later.
