Joe Biden isn't responsible for this situation (though Congress could do something about skyrocketing rents and elder care nightmares). There might be little Joe can do about it except use his bully pulpit. This is our world. We’re doing okay, but almost 60% of Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness.
Somehow, we have to communicate to people that “the economy” is not “your worries about the future.” It’s a measure of how you are doing right now. Most people are doing pretty well right now.
But everyone knows someone who isn’t. And the media is filled with stories of people who are not making it. And the sheer agony of the “have nots” is morally intolerable to anyone with an ounce of empathy.
As always: I make my comics with AI (and I’m seeing more and more people make comics with AI on DK, but not announcing that they are). If you have thoughts about AI and our world, please feel free to discuss them in the comments.
Incidentally, last week (or so), three major generative AIs went down, OpenAI (chatGPT) among them. The AI companies said very little, and admitted nothing, but what they DID SAY led me to believe they’d suffered a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack.
Around the same time, Tiktok and several major sites announced that they were the target of a DDOS attack, and one open source AI announced that they had been attacked and their security was penetrated. They took counter-measures, restored security, and made reports to the proper authorities.
This was an attack, and a BIG ONE.
