Lately, I’m often getting a message like the above image when I try to send kosmail.
Interestingly, it often turns out that the message actually went through anyway. If also sometimes not.
So, when I get that 504 message, I leave that page/tab just as it is, open a fresh tab, and use the fresh tab to go look at my Daily Kos kosmail inbox to check on what actually happened. At the inbox, I select the message thread in question … providing it’s there. It nearly always is!
If not, I return to the tab with the 504 page, back-arrow to get to the unsent message, and usually its text etc is still there in a kosmail form… roughly like the example below.
A previous diary on kosmail workarounds is here.
The helpdesk has been contacted about the problems, and has received various kinds of data — tech crew is working on it!
Commenters with more strategies please describe them!
e.g., Sidnora says she starts with 2 tabs open for this purpose in the first place!
and elenacarlena mentions:
try “Preview” before “Send”. Sometimes it will then go through.
And if that doesn’t work, try a “testing” message before a longer message. That worked once for me today.
TulsaGal says: “As an extra measure, I’ve also been composing my KosMail in Notepad, just in case ...”, in order to have the text saved, and not have to recompose, in case a glitch eats the kosmail entirely.
