WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
Watch for WineRev’s G&G notes in the comments to see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted in the past. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Tip: You can search for >>> in Roundups to quickly find his comments.
WineRev, last Sunday:
Good flying visit morning to 2thanks and all the early risers at the Gnuville Breakfast Brunch. Hot drinks straight ahead, hot breakfast baked and proteins on your left, mimosas on your right, and the Sunday Lounge and Pray if You Got ‘Em Chapel just behind that decorated wall. Thank you all for coming in.
I myself am using the Breakfast Brunch Drive Thru Window this morning, taking in sustenance through the window, the cup holder by the radio buttons doing its duty, the front seat doubling as a cafe table (the Martini & Rossi umbrella proved unsafe to deploy inside the car, and poking it out the window made for…….umbrella “issues”.) I am on the road this weekend, driving back to my Ohio home town stomping grounds: my back door neighbor Becky, who had 3 boys (and I got to tutor the two oldest from time to time in arithmetic) who functioned in many ways as everybody’s “Second Mom” is having a birthday….her 90th! One of her sons and I cooked up the idea of me (now retired with some time in my days and a reliable car) should drive down secretly and BE the surprise gift at her afternoon dinner, so I will be.
Should be fun----far more fun than yesterday. In 50 years+ of owning a driver’s license I have NEVER been in a worse traffic jam than yesterday: 3 full hours to move…..11 miles on the I-94 in Chicago. “Insane” did not begin to describe…….
So I got into the motel late and this intro will be clipped a bit short but the History Corner is still yours for fun and thoughts!
Science

Topics in tonight’s digest include:
- Nuclear battery breakthrough
- More efficient hydrogen energy systems
- Ancient portal to the underworld found
- Leatherback turtle makes rare appearance
- The sun’s magnetic field is about to flip
- Wingless supersonic jet concept predicts NY to London in less than five hours
- Making nuclear energy more efficient, affordable and safer
- Slash your energy bill, without installing solar panels

Please share good science news with us! (Especially JSWT, health, environment.)
A good place to look for science news if you are waiting for the Sunday Roundup is the archive of Overnight News Digest. On Saturdays, the OND always focuses on science, though not all of it is devoted to what I would call Good Science News.
Need more good news?
… arhpdx posted a list of good news sites toward the top of a recent Roundup, or you can find that same list in my comment: Good News Sources. Thank you, arhpdx and Mokurai!

Our map of Gnuville: 870 of us have shared our global locations!
To leave your mark, please Reply in the comments to tljdk or the map-building comment. Please indicate only your general location, NOT street number and street. (Please persist, we are volunteers.)

You can use the map’s zoom arrows to resize the view and focus on your pin to find neighbors. Please note that the Google Map, though convenient to operate, is visually inaccurate because, among other issues, it enlarges North America and shrinks Africa [Maps present a distorted view of the world by kos].

PC Productivity #3 💨 ✅
- PC Productivity #1 is here.
- PC Productivity #2 is here.
For Windows and likely Linux (h/t kraigo):
What is the opposite of “enlarge”? “Delarge”? With Windows and more than likely Linux, in all of the browsers I have handy, you can change the Zoom factor of what you’re looking at by holding down the Ctrl key and using the mouse wheel to embiggen or debiggen the scaling factor (magnification) of the contents of your browsers. It’s very quick and handy, and as displays go to 4K pixel resolution and beyond, this may be useful, no matter how long your eyes have been blinking. So, don’t be vain about it. Really, honestly, would I lie to you? You’re not getting older, those damned pixels just keep getting smaller! I hope this is useful.

Zooming in and out with the keyboard
The keyboard shortcuts for zooming in and out are Ctrl + + [While holding down Ctrl, press the Plus symbol] and Ctrl + - [While holding down Ctrl, press the Minus sign]. You can practice this without breaking anything. Go ahead, try it.
Other keyboard shortcuts for Chrome and other browsers include Ctrl + R to Reload webpages and Ctrl + W to close the current tab. If you have just one tab open, this shortcut closes the Whole Window.
Keyboard shortcut for PC browsers described today
- Ctrl + +
- Ctrl + -
- Ctrl + r
- Ctrl + w
What is your goal for number of new keyboard shortcuts learned per week? Are you meeting that goal?
Do you have any other questions?

Action Steps from Gnusies
Six of our Good News writers regularly post a panoply of fantastic action steps in their Good News Roundups. If you don’t see a way to become active that suits your personality, your funds, or your time, please review their most recent diaries for many different options to volunteer and/or donate:
On Daily Kos:

A Little Bit About Me
Rough night last night, busy day ahead. Feeding 2 cats their morning and evening meals today at my daughter’s house. Planning to plant 7 tomato plants and cut my grass with my solar-powered lawn mower today. Need to get basil plants from the farmers market next Saturday to put in near the tomatoes. Also the usual homemaking and caregiving.
I’m still grateful that kraigo took over for me, posting the Welcome comment and Fundraising comment in the Good News Roundups almost every day. That gave me a chance to rest, survey the situation, and organize, i.e., ask for help. Asking for help is not easy for me. Thanks, kraigo! ❤
Last Sunday, Daily Kos shut down for maintenance at 10 p.m. ET, and I was therefore unable to read, Recommend, or post comments in my diary. My commenting power was intermittent the following the morning, so I was unable to Recommend many comments in last Sunday’s Roundup, but I read all of them and responded to a few. Thanks again, Everybody!
Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 5 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind! Beginners, you are cordially invited to comment!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
2thanks (he, him)
