Cartoon: To save their sinking ship, the GOP tosses their “cherished principles” overboard.
This cartoon was inspired by a passage from paradox’ 6/11 diary:

In the process of reading it, this passage stepped in my creative ‘juices’:
“just when you think they couldn’t abandon any past cherished principle or politics they just go right ahead and do it, this time the past bulwark principle of law and order.”
Specifically the word “abandon” triggered an image of panicking sailors tossing any expendable, political dead-weight overboard, in a vain effort to save the sinking ship of the GOP. That amounts to their entire cargo of ‘empty crates’.
Of coarse they’ve also been tossing each other, but as they’re mostly filled with hot air the end result is much the same.
The conservative mind can’t adapt properly — it can only discard that which no longer serves to prop up its delusions. It would be easier to snuff the sun than stop change.
Change is invulnerable — the sun is not.
