Didn’t see a diary on this here yet. So here’s a quick one. For starters a story from KVUE:
The charge is issued under the Texas Penal Code when someone "intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence" causes a child bodily injury. The grand jury indictment is part of the broader investigation into who should be held responsible for law enforcement inaction during the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
.
The charges come more than two years after the May 24, 2022 shooting, in which a lone gunman killed 19 fourth graders and two teachers.
Uvalde County District Attorney Christina Mitchell convened a grand jury in January to investigate law enforcement’s delayed response and to determine whether to bring criminal charges against any of the nearly 400 federal, state and local officers involved in the response. Law enforcement officers waited 77 minutes to confront the gunman, who was ultimately shot and killed by Border Patrol officers.
The botched law enforcement response has been widely criticized, including in a January U.S. Justice Department report. That report documented failures in leadership, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland noted that lives could have been saved had law enforcement acted sooner.
The bets around Texas are that Abbott will pardon Arredondo and Gonzales, maybe before they’re ever tried. After all, on that day he praised them to high heaven for bravery.
Yeah. I remember.
And I know Joe Biden showed up despite having a cold tonight, and I know drumpf got up on stage and lied his convicted-felon, adjudged-rapist, known-liar, fat orange rear end off in front of Christ and everybody.
But I’m talking about justice for some kids and teachers here who should be alive this summer. I’m not going to apologize for thinking that’s more important than some lame excuse for a “debate” the host network couldn’t bother to moderate, let alone fact-check. (Pro tip: next time watch PBS.).
