Hello fellow progressives, who I know ALL want MAGA defeated decisively. I am sharing a link to an article in Salon entitled 5 Lessons Joe Biden should have learned from Hillary Clinton’s 2016 loss. I do not know the author but do not deem her to be a troll. I think many of us will find it informative and provocative.
No doubt, some will take offense, because 100% toeing the party line seems to be the thing here. I am hoping we are open minded about past failures and future challenges as we face the existential crisis before us.
If you don’t want to read it, here are the main bullets (with my quick take)
1. You can’t wish someone into electability (applies to our side)
2. You can’t ignore unpopular policy positions (applies to our side)
3. You can’t trust the conventional media to get the story right (duh..)
4. You can’t dismiss Americans’ concern for political oligarchy (applies, albeit perversely)
5. Listen to Michael Moore (maybe the least relevant point the author makes, but he did call 2016).
Please don’t shoot the messenger. I got a temporary ban hammer a few days ago for triggering some snowflakes due to my pushing back on Joe’s fitness and electability. These are concerns shared by many progressives and commenters on this site, many less engaged folk, and MANY youth I encounter in my work. Let’s not put our heads in the sand about the magnitude of what is in front of us. Let’s confront our own weaknesses and mitigate them. Are we here to engage and learn, or are we here for an echo chamber? I hope the former.
Namaste
