This is meant as an unofficial thread for the Daily Kos Elections crowd to discuss what is going on with Biden and efforts to get him to step down from the Presidential nomination. This is because very wisely talk over who should be the nominee aka primary talk is forbidden because it tends to drown out all other talk. All I ask for in this thread is that we keep it to electoral politics (how it will affect the election) rather than policy.
Things stand not that different from yesterday. Whether Democrats like it or not Biden is still in the drivers seat as he controls the nomination process. Biden called for everyone to judge him on his performance at the NATO press conference which was par for the course. Excellent substance but quite lacking in rhetorical execution. More congressmembers called for him to step aside. Which does not really mean a hill of beans since Biden cannot be pushed out. Though may present logistical problems in running general turnout operations if there is a lack of cooperation post labor day.
Things are also about to briefly enter an even darker period and then freeze away for awhile. I’m talking about two upcoming events. First will be the Republican convention combined with the introduction of the Republican nominee with the convention taking place next week. This should give the Republicans a bounce and give Democrats some scary statewide polls for a week or two. Though conventions are not as widely watched or paid attention to as the past. With “news” in general being a dying art form.
But all that will fade with the Paris Olympics starting July 26th.
When it ends on August 11th everything will reset and hopefully a good Democratic convention can give us a needed bounce of our own going in to Labor Day. So vent away. A month from now we might not even remember what we were arguing over. But if we still are, Lord help us.
I’ll end on a Neil Kinnock’s interview in 2020 about the infamous 1987 Biden “plagiarism scandal” and how he is enthusiastically backing Biden.
