I am “Dem and media elites out.” Who do these a-holes think they are? I, like many Kossacks, have been donating, volunteering and doing everything I can to defeat Donald Trump and these folks clearly do not care and assume we — the millions of people doing the work — do not matter. No one is talking to us, worried about us, communicating with us. Concerned that spending all July what has clearly devolved into a Bonfire of the Vanities battle is not a good idea in an election that is within the margin of error.
Clooney in his NYT piece, like all these pundits eliding over the difficulty of replacing Biden, doesn’t even mention volunteers, organizers or the people actually doing the work. Instead he writes
Would it be messy? Yes. Democracy is messy. But would it enliven our party and wake up voters who, long before the June debate, had already checked out? It sure would. The short ramp to Election Day would be a benefit for us, not a danger. It would give us the chance to showcase the future without so much opposition research and negative campaigning that comes with these ridiculously long and expensive election seasons. This can be an exciting time for democracy, as we’ve just seen with the 200 or so French candidates who stepped aside and put their personal ambitions on hold to save their democracy from the far right.
Where is the effort to organize us, the grassroots, to bring us together not matter who is the nominee? Instead, it is about them, their opinions, their egos. Jon Lovett from PSA, who I have liked, actually wrote this about our presumptive Democratic nominee
But it’s hard to deny that in the two weeks since the debate, it’s the arrogant and small Joe Biden we’ve seen most - hanging on, bragging, defensive, angry, weak.
Who is this convincing or helping? Does Lovett think saying the hurtful thing out loud is going to push Biden to change his mind? If you read the replies to his tweet below, what you see are mostly Trump bots and stans using his tweet to pile on President Biden. Here’s an example
This is very well written, but completely delusional.
is not a hero. He’s only the angry, selfish man he’s always been. He’s corrupt as hell and puts his family’s interests over the country’s at every turn, just as he always has. I’m glad he’s staying in the race. He will lose and deserves to lose—a fitting end for a horrible career politician.
Similarly, does Clooney think running an op-ed in the NYT (a paper that Bidenworld rightly detests) will persuade Biden and his team to change course? Or are these guys just preserving their own egos and not democracy? Because what they are doing is just further damaging the Democratic nominee we already have (and they do not seem to care).
This election is still a margin of error election. Yes, Biden is down but there is no indication of a landslide.
The economy is rolling, inflation is down. Most people — who are luckily and thankfully not watching this s-show — are seeing their lives improve. We all need to focus on the campaign and voters as soon as possible. And, these elites need to wake up and realize that the biggest asset of the Dem party is the grassroots, not them, and start acting like it.
I guess the good news is that the voters are not listening or watching these dummies. Ironically, their audience is us — the Dem faithful and I think we all need to find a way to stop listening, enabling, supporting them and focus on doing the job at hand.
