Of late I have found myself frequently focused on articles about the upcoming November rematch between President Biden and former President Trump. It is certainly the most divisive and volatile race I have witnessed in my lifetime. The vitriol that is being slung about, the vicious accusations, the wide spread rumors perpetuated by irresponsible journalists and pundits, towards the candidates and that is just the Democrats attacking President Biden. Republicans need to do nothing but sit back and witness with glee the irony of it all. I myself, and I suspect many individuals, am spending too much time worrying about an inevitable matchup of two radically opposed candidates each who could determine a dramatically different outcome for the direction this country and in all reality, this world is headed. Many people have already made up their minds. Some have based those decisions on firmly held opinions and policies but more are likely based merely on the party their candidate represents. I don't know the actual numbers, I doubt anyone truly does, but there is usually a significant number of likely voters that have yet to put much thought into an election that is 8, 6, 4 months away. We who spend hours perusing the internet seeking validation and affirmation for our chosen candidate, deeply mired in the latest, news story, article or poll released. I am somewhat of an optimist when it comes to believing in the common decency in people. I am under a misguided perception that if someone just sat down and had a heart to heart with an uninformed, maga republican...or maybe just a right leaning independent, that person would see things more clearly and make a wiser and more educated choice in the upcoming election. Ha. Perhaps I am becoming a cynic or the cynic deep inside is being yanked and pulled to the surface amidst all of the ridiculous political pandemonium that has leapt to the forefront of late. It brings to mind the saying about the Devil... that the devil's greatest achievement was convincing the world he didn't exist. Trump, the 2025 agenda, the christian nationalism, stripping away the personal rights of women, the list goes on, is succeeding in tricking us into believing he is not a threat. Why would you ever vote for an individual who's agenda if elected, will strip away all of the freedoms and priviledges that the constitution entitles all of us. An agenda that not only turns back the calendar to the dark ages literally and figuratively but sets forth an unprecedented danger to democracy? Today I spent less time perusing the political tagged articles and spent more time reading the news. What a mess our world is. I understand that many or most of the Biden naysayers are merely alarmed, and fearful that Biden will not be able to sway the masses away from a Trump presidency and thus a political armagaeddon, I understand that while they are confrontational with accusations of mental incapacity and concern over what may appear as feebleness... they are not against the man himself. Frequently the accusations are cushioned with recognition of a decent and kind individual, an accomplished public servant with a long list of accomplishments. Albeit too often punctuated with caviats of alleged stubborness and arrogance fueled by claims that he and he alone can triumph over Trump. Well in all fairness he seems to be at least somewhat correct in this claim. Even the Supreme Court, the supposed final bastion defending the constitution, kowtowed. Ultimately leaving all of us in shock and awe, and truly gobsmacked at this "unexpected" turn of events. Well darn, what started out as an attempt to reel in the political fury and appease the political junkies has turned into just another rant. What I meant to say was this. The world has so many scary, unprecedented calamities occuring. People are dying. The climate is on fire, wars are raging... sadly, business as usual. If being a democrat, a liberal/progressive, a humanitarian and a well intentioned soul, cannot allow me to put aside my own personal angst and fears, at this time of worldwide unrest and desperation, how can I expect an entire likeminded group of individuals to do so. So I stand by whatever decision our President comes to. I hope he sticks around to kick the GOP's ass and allows us to begin again the efforts to move forward in a hopeful and positive direction, not just for our nation but the world community at large.
