I thought it was a strong performance by Joe Biden. Not perfect, but very good. He had a strong command of the big picture and knew and discussed the details on a wide range of issues. His main flubs were a few word or name mix ups which mostly corrected right away (with the notable exception of the name of his VP). I thought he had a good answer to why he won’t step aside, ie. that it would be very hard for a candidate to win when he/she starts so late, and that it would be overruling the expressed democratic will of the voters who nominated him in the primaries, and isn’t that what we’re fighting for — democracy? I found that to be a strong argument.
Joe made clear he is not leaving, at least not voluntarily. I don’t think he could have done much better beyond a few word flubs. The question is whether it will silence prominent Democratic critics within Congress and the rest of the party.
