“Who the hell thinks you need an Ivy League degree to be President?” Biden told CNN in Pennsylvania during his first televised town hall as his party's standard-bearer.
"Guys like me, the first people in their family to go to college," he said, "we are as good as anybody else.”
Not only did Biden not go to an Ivy League school, but while a Senator he never did the fancy party scene in DC. He had a two-hour commute to Delaware in front of him and wanted to be home in time to tuck the boys in. It cost him some in terms of connections with influential people, but it was worth it for him. Hobnobbing with the elite has never been high on Biden’s list of things he wanted to do.
Biden’s parents raised him like this, as Barack Obama has emphasized:
“No one’s better than you, Joe, but you’re better than nobody.”
Biden doesn’t think people are better than others because they have money and power. That just isn’t who he is.
Here is Biden drawing the contrast:
Joe Biden doesn’t value people with money and connections more than people without. That may seem like an obvious statement, but it actually excludes quite a number of politicians, and it means a lot.
This has greatly affected how Biden has led and who his policies help.
Is there still more work to be done? 100%! Lots more work. But Biden has done so much more than many people guessed could be done. He deserves a lot of credit. AND he deserves to be re-elected.
