The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on follow.

I figured there might be a glitch in the system, so I will present (and host) the Back Yard Bird Race today. I welcome all your sightings, photos, counts (unusual or regulars) for last month. Feel free to chat if you don’t have any new items to present.
I had a surprising month of birding. June is typically a slow period for birding here in Mississippi, unless one is willing to travel to points of interest across the state. I decided to concentrate on two sites. The first is my closest and favorite (Sardis Lake Wildlife Refuge) and then there was a chance encounter at the Tupelo, MS. Buffalo Park (an animal conservation/zoo facility). Here are my numbers for last month.
My birding numbers up to this point in the year.
Since the bulk of my new sightings were at the Buffalo Park, I’ll show the variety of things I saw there.
female Golden Pheasant
African Crowned Crane male
Black Swan male
Toco Toucan
Ostrich male
The House Sparrows have mated and some have begun to molt. The gent below was hanging with a group of females.

Sorry I didn’t include all the list Jeff usually inserts. But I will direct anyone to those sources if asked.
Show us what you have and let the races begin.
