Plus, in all sincerity, my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives and to their families who are grieving that loss tonight. As someone who is sadly and intimately familiar and directly impacted by gun violence, there is no place in this world where it can be excused. My heart goes out to them.
For the last 25 years, a quarter century, of children being slaughtered in our schools by violent, gun-wielding, mentally ill people, all we have ever gotten from Republican politicians are their “thoughts and prayers,” and “it’s too soon to politicize this.” Well, I ask them all. Is NOW a good time to talk about gun control? How about now?
Now?
You KNOW the fascist state and its lackey MSM will make this about violence from the left, and it will probably give TFG a bump in the polls, temporarily. Let’s make it about keeping guns out of the hands of mentally ill and violent offenders.
Of course, it’s too soon to know anything about the shooter, and really, who cares? Political violence has no place in a civil society, though “civility,” is a stretch in our current times. Still, this was an abhorrent act, no matter your politics, and we should all condemn it loudly and vociferously.
And we should talk about common sense gun laws that 70% to 90% of Americans support. It’s a short window of opportunity to set the narrative of this event. Let’s not miss it.
