Biden condemns 'sick' Trump shooting, campaign suspends ads
By Jarrett Renshaw and Nandita Bose, Reuters, July 13, 2024
A Biden campaign official, who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the team was "working to pull down our television ads as quickly as possible," in response to the seriousness of the moment.
What the hell are you doing, Biden campaign? Trump was a dangerous fascist last week, and he’ll be a dangerous fascist next week. Don’t offer sympathy and comfort to a dangerous fascist.
It was already bad enough that Biden took the stage for the debate and didn’t open his comments attacking Trump for being a white supremacist, for instigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attempted overthrow of the government, and for dozens of other traitorous, never mind utterly disqualifying, things he has said and done. Instead Biden legitimized Trump by debating him as a peer.
Biden’s actions last night again legitimize Trump as a candidate for the presidency. A Trump presidency, Trump and his cronies having learned from last time, would mean violent white (Christian, straight, male) supremacist rule orders of magnitude worse than the awful conditions in the USA already; it would mean wholesale surrender to fascist oligarchs from Russia to Saudi Arabia, along with unbridled totalitarianism from China; it would guarantee burning the planet to a crisp along with greater mass extinctions of flora and fauna, in service of billionaires’ greed… and Trump’s self-aggrandizement. On top of the horrifically high risk that Trump would get us into a nuclear war.
Get back on the campaign trail right now, Biden. Persuade people! The election is less than four months away, with early voting starting well before that. Every day counts. That is, unless losing the election to fascists and climate doom isn’t the worst thing that could happen, unless you’d rather lose than wield legitimate political power with moral clarity on the public’s behalf.
The Trump campaign aims to use today's shooting as a sort of Reichstag fire to incite his supporters to step up street violence while calling for more state repression targeting his enemies of choice.
The Biden campaign has already paused all outbound communications and withdrawn their television advertisements, ceding the entire field of narrative to Donald Trump, who will have no compunction about using his status as a victim to advance his efforts to victimize others.

Why the fuck is the #Biden campaign #pausing TV ads and other #campaign activity tonight in the aftermath of Trump being shot at? They should take every opportunity to press ads against guns and violence. Trump brought this on himself. THIS decision by Biden is one thing that infuriates me about him. Does anyone believe Trump would do anything remotely similar? Hell, no.

It's not new, it's not unexpected, and it's not un-American. Four American Presidents have been murdered, and 3 or 4 more have been shot at, with injuries of varying severity.
Furthermore, violence in pursuit of political gain is endemic to a system that suppresses votes, blames immigrants, and segregates its population.
This IS America.
