I’ve been reading about calls for Biden to drop out, and have the democrats nominate someone else at the convention. But the attempt on trump’s life last week made me think; what if he had been killed? Who would the Rs replace him with?
It worries me a bit that if the republicans, in the sudden absence of the orange one, ran someone a bit closer to the center they might lose some of the MAGA base, but draw many of the more rational rebublicans who passionately hate the T man back into the fold. Under that scenario, would Biden still be the best candidate to win in November?
I do think Biden can win against orange guy, but could he do as well in an election where people were voting for their favorite candidate rather than voting against the one that scares them the most? If the shooter last week had succeeded in ending trump’s campaign would Biden do as well against, for example, Nikki Haley? Late into the primary season she was still pulling double-digit percentages, even after she officially dropped out of the race, fueled IMHO by those more rational republicans I referred to earlier.
I’m still up in the air over replacing Biden. He has a prety darn good list of accomplishments over the last few years, but he is not the same as he was 4 years ago. We all slow down with age. And the rate of decline, from my life’s observations, seem to greatly accelerate once it has begun. If he isn’t the best candidate to beat anyone the republicans could field, is he really the best candidate the democrats have?
