Last night on MSNBC talk turned to the pressure campaign to push Biden out. After listening for a bit, Joy Reid explained what she is hearing from her sources. She begins speaking at minute 2:45 if you want to skip the preliminaries. I can’t find a transcript so I will paraphrase.
She says she feels like she has talked to every member of the Congressional Black Caucus (this seems like a joke, but clearly she is in contact with many of them.) She is also in touch with people who work with GOTV in African American areas. She says they feel this is an effort to push out Kamala Harris and to have the battle for the candidate in 2028 at the 2024 convention. She also says it is coming “from California). She says until that is not the case, the Congressional Black Caucus is not budging.
Later in the piece Ari Melber says perhaps if Joe holds off and steps down closer to the convention it will be much tougher to nominate anyone but Kamala, due to practical concerns.
The DNC has announced it plans to keep the roll call vote for the first week of August as planned previously. They have concerns that given months of wrangling seem quite legitimate about ballot access in Ohio. There are not, and never have been, plans to move the roll call forward, in spite of reporting to the contrary.
So that’s it, folks. Not sure if Joy Reid’s mention of California is just about Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi and their desire to influence who should head the presidential ticket, or if this includes the ambitious California Governor Gavin Newsom as well. In public Newsom is behind Biden, but that could just be a show.
