My email to MSNBC:
To Whom It May Concern:
I have been a loyal watcher of MSNBC for many years. I have not always agreed with what every MSNBC anchor or reporter had to say, but overall, I felt that MSNBC still engaged in real reporting on issues that were important for all Americans. It beat the hell out of what I saw of what had become of networks like CBS, which my family used to watch religiously for decades (We got into the habit of watching CBS News because of the honesty of Walter Cronkite, but Les Moonves ruined that network with his pursuit of ratings and giving Donald Trump a free pass in 2016). And it is with sadness and deep regret that I have to say I no longer watch MSNBC.
There are multiple reasons for my dropping MSNBC from my TV viewing habits.
For starters, the hiring of former RNC Chairperson Ronna McDaniel was very upsetting to me. Her hiring clearly demonstrated that the management of MSNBC was trying to capture the attention of Trump supporters for the sake of ratings. In other words, MSNBC isn't interested in reporting the news but in chasing profits.
You only fired McDaniel because she was a direct threat to the MSNBC brand, and viewers/anchors rebelled at the thought of an election denier having a cushy job on your network.
Next, even though MSNBC has a reputation as a "liberal" news organization, your afternoon line up of anchors is anything but liberal. Andrea Mitchell, Chris Jansing, and Katy Tur insist on not challenging Republicans when they appeared on their respective show and told lies. Even worse is the tendency for "balance" by those anchors. It's some of the worst bothsiderism I have seen on MSNBC.
I could tolerate all of the above by simply not watching those afternoon shows. However, the last several weeks have been the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back for me. Since the so called disasterous presidential "debate" on CNN, MSNBC has been pushing an agenda that President Biden is too old and in cognitive decline and needs to be replaced. The only anchor who didn't seem to jump on the "Dump Biden!" bandwagon was Lawrence O'Donnell.
President Biden had a bad night, and Democrats must dump him? What about Donald Trump? I don't seem to recall MSNBC leading the charge for Republicans to drop Donald Trump. An immoral man who is a serial liar, rapist, insurrectionist, fraudster, and convicted felon. By the way, Trump is in cognitive decline and 78 years old, but Trump gets a free pass from MSNBC?
You already proved that ratings and profits are the primary motivators at MSNBC and NOT DEMOCRACY when you hired Ronna McDaniel. It's not a conspiracy theory to think that once again ratings and profits are the reason why MSNBC treats Biden to a much higher standard than Trump. Therefore, why should I watch a bunch of your employees towing the corporate line on attacking President Biden's age and cognitive abilities?
I won't.
You will probably dismiss my comments, or do a false equivalancy between my views and those of FOX viewers who did not want to hear about Donald Trump's loss in 2020. Unlike FOX viewers, I can at least agree upon a set of objective facts. I know that President Biden is 81 years old. I wish he wasn't an old man. I could clearly see he did a bad job during the CNN debate.
But was Biden WRONG or LYING during most of his responses? No. However, Trump repeatedly lied during the debate. And he continues to show signs of cognitive decline during his rallies (He slurs his words, and Trump wanders off topic into bizarre rants).
Those are facts, and unlike FOX viewers, I don't nod my head in agreement with Trump's every inane utterance. Trump supporters are delusional. I am not.
And I won't keep watching any network that continues to insult my intelligence by pushing a blatant self-serving, destructive politcal agenda that can only reward Donald Trump.
