Picture it . . . Monday, July 22, 2024.
We are freshly done with the hot mess express, er, Republican National Convention, with their bloody ear fetish and fist pumping. The orange one thinks he has done something by naming a VP candidate who wants nothing more than to strip women of their rights from sea to shining sea. Visions of handmaids dance in their MAGA heads. After a weekend of the GOP glowing with the assumption that the Democrats will stay in disarray . . . we see a Monday vision of hope and unity that provides peace of mind to all loving and caring creatures of this country. For every person who is worried about the potential future of this country after November, a ray of shining sunlight beams down upon us, and her name is “Michelle Obama.”
In this dream, President Biden steps down to choruses of praise and appreciation. His successes as president are lauded. He is not stepping down in shame, no, he is stepping down because he sees that it is a time for women to take the lead. In his place, Michelle Obama steps up. Although she has never wanted the job, she understands that this is her moment. Kamala Harris stays on as the VP candidate and we have a ticket that counters all of the misogyny, anger and cruelty on display at the MAGA convention. This is not the year of angry young men. 2024 is the year of reasonable, intelligent and capable women. Biden even says this as a reason for stepping aside — it is time for America to do what it has never done before. It is time to fight the demise of Roe with our first woman president.
This announcement completely decimates any benefit that Trump gained in the last week. He is irrelevant. He is stuck in the past, and he is orange. His VP nominee only solidifies this idea. He is nothing, and not at all interesting or exciting compared to this opportunity for the Democrats.
Do I have the mechanism under which this dream will happen? Nope! Have I thought out every potential consequence or pitfall? Nope!
Delulu is my solulu and I want this more than a Lukola ship after watching the Bridgerton season 3 press tour. C’mon Joe and Michelle, let’s make a deal!
