Today, bizzaro world, AKA the Republican Convention, that was the fantasy of Donald Trump's mind came to life. It featured a washed up professional wrestler ripping off his shirt and telling American to be afraid of Trumpites.
Then it featured Donald Trump taking the stage and claiming God came down and rescued him from the bullet (or piece of glass) that hit ear.
There’s an explicitly religious overtone to all this. Trump was saved, Trump was protected.
“Bullets were flying all over us, and yet I felt serene,” he says. He adds, later: “I’m not supposed to be here tonight,” a statement that the crowd greets with chants of “yes you are.”
“I stand before you here thanks to the grace of an almighty God,” Trump says.
Trump also bizarrely kissed the helmet of the fireman who was killed protecting his family from the shooter.
If the fantasy is death, then Trump is indulging it. He just took a moment onstage to go and kiss the helmet, before thanking Comperatore’s family for providing his “outfit.”
Trump then rambled on about how Democrats only won the 2020 election because they steal and cheat followed by demanding all of the felony prosecutions against him be dropped.
Do we really want a King who believes his supporters when they claim that a serial sexual harasser who is on video tape bragging about assaulting women has been anointed by God to be President ? Do we really want a President who apparently actually believes he's been selected by God to be President? So much so that he created Messianic talking points for his convention goers?
Where I live, people rambling incoherently about how they are an Angel sent by God on the street corner are ignored and thought to be mentally ill. Yet we are OK with not having a discussion about whether Donald Trump, who apparently actually believes this stuff on the stage tonight, has enough of a grasp on reality to serve as President?
We aren't going to discuss how four years after a free and fair election that Joe Biden won, Donald Trump believes that the election was stolen because his ego won't let him believe that he could lose?
Where is the wall to wall coverage of whether the Republican Party should affirm the choice of this mentally ill individual to be their nominee?
Update, after Trump gives a speech of a length that would make the ghost of Hugo Chavez proud, he says that Republicans will have to have their next convention in Caracas Venezuela and then claims the capital of a country which he once called a sh*t hole has a lower crime rate that San Francisco. More insanity from the Republican nominee.
Update: Now Trump returns to his racist oldies of 8 years ago by claiming that the only reason El Salvador's fascist President has lowered crime is because he sent his murderers to the United States. Yeah, nothing at all racist or disturbing about that.
Will the media wake up to the fact that King Donald, if he's elected, will follow the model of his hero the, in Trump's own words, authoritative leader Kim Jong Un and subject us to speeches of this length and insanity and punish us severely if we don't appreciate the greatness of this oratory? Or are they only interested in the fact that Joe Biden has passed his 81st birthday?
